Hire for the bottleneck
Distinguish prospecting, planning, relationship management, and administration. If advisors spend their week chasing paperwork, another salesperson may not solve the constraint. Estimate the workload each role can actually absorb before setting a hiring target.
Define a useful pipeline
Use stages with clear exit criteria: inquiry received, discovery completed, scope agreed, engagement accepted, and onboarding completed. Track response time and conversion by stage. Avoid incentives that reward volume while ignoring client needs, supervision, or service capacity.
Make the handoff explicit
A new relationship needs a named owner and an agreed next step. Create approved templates for meeting notes, service scope, and onboarding requests. Review compensation and referral arrangements with compliance before using them. Do not export client records to an unapproved CRM.
